What I’m about to share with you is not a free publicity secret, but instead is a technique used for driving traffic to websites since the early days of Internet marketing. I’m talking about writing free reprint articles for widespread distribution on the Internet. You may have even written one or two such articles in the past to promote your site, but have you written tens or hundreds of articles? If not, prehaps you should. Consider the following experience I’ve had writing articles and I think you’ll see why you should be spending more time promoting your websites by writing and submitting articles to free reprint article distribution sites, and less time trying to obtain reciprocal links from people. There are several reasons why reciprocal links are bad these days. I’ll cover that issue later in this article, but allow me to offer an example of the type of success one can enjoy by publishing free reprint articles.
In April of 2005 a friend of mine asked me if I would write an article for him regarding Mesothelioma Cancer, which, at $75 per click, was the most costly keyword a Google Adwords advertiser could buy at the time. Many of my friend’s websites run Google Adsense ads, which earn him commissions from Google that represent a percentage of the ad revenue that Google is able to obtain for a given keyword. Seeing the high ad rates for “mesothelioma cancer” he decided to build an information site about the mesothlioma cancer in hopes of earning high commission rates from Adsense since the clickthrough ad costs were so high for the term.
I must warn you that if you’re thinking about doing this now that you’ve read this article, forget about it. For since the revelation that mesothelioma cancer was the highest paying keyword search phrase thousands of webmasters have gone out and built similar sites, the ad costs for the phrase has gone down a lot, its not longer the highest paying search term and its extremely difficult, if not impossible, to build a mesothelioma website these days and get high search engine rankings because of the enormous competition by the thousands of similar websites. That said, let me move on by discussing my article publishing experience in more detail.
I decided that I would write an article about mesothelioma cancer that could cover early warning signs and causes. For those of you that are not familiar with mesothelioma, this is the type of cancer you can get from working or living around or near asbestos. So lawyers are frequently running Adwords ads on Google to find new prospects or clients to represent and file lawsuits against others who may have been responsible for the presence of the asbestos environment. This is why it was and is (but to a lesser degree) a high-paying Adwords and Adsense keyword term.
I’m not a mesothelioma expert, nor do I render medical opinions, nor do I want to be perceived as a medical expert. There is, however, a lot of good information online and from other sources on mesothelioma and research proved that there is common agreement by numerous authorities regarding the causes and warning signs associated with mesothelioma cancer. Thus, after spending a couple of hours reading information about the cancer from several recognizable sources it fairly easy to craft an article about the cancer, similar to essays we’ve all written in school or college.
Because most webmasters of informational websites lack good quality content and hate to take the time to write fresh content of their own, they often comb the horde of websites that exists online for the sole purpose of publishing and distributing free reprint articles. Authors of these articles post articles to these websites solely for free publicity services. All article distribution websites provide clear instructions that others are free to publish the articles on their respective websites provided they keep the author’s bio information (i.e., the “About the Author” section) intact with url hyperlinks active and untouched. Thus, each author of a free reprint article always includes a brief bio about his or herself that includes a hyperlink back to the website they are promoting.
A search on Yahoo for “Mesothelioma Cancer: Early Warning Signs and Causes” (with quotes at each end of the search phrase) will reveal 2,490 websites that have published my article, while a staggering 11,000 or more that appear in Google’s index. Frankly, each of these indexes are not listing all sites that published the article. Both search engines have made many changes to their search algorithm formulas in recent months and their respective search indices and rankings have changed considerably. However, at one time Google was showing 39,900 websites that had published my article.
I promoted two websites in that particular article, one was my friend’s mesothelioma site and the other was my search engine site — Seekdolphin.com. This is the only means I have ever seeked to promote Seekdolphin. A search for the word “seekdolphin” on Google reveals 13,300 websites that have a reference to Seekdolphin on their pages. Pretty impressive, but when you consider that Google often only includes links from websites with Page Rank of 3 of higher, it becomes more impressive.
I’ve chosen to write this article for one particular purpose — namely, to reveal real-live statistics and results from publishing a single free reprint article. In your lifetime you could never end up manually seeking and obtaining 11,000 inbound links to your website, much less my all-time high of 39,900. However, by writing good content with catch headlines you can turn your writing skills into a free publicity traffic machine. Not only will you get more traffic from search engines, but you’ll get tons of free traffic from the websites that publish your articles.
Reciprocal links used to be a great way to get free traffic to your site. But this is not the case anymore. Google’s search engine reviews the quality of incoming links, the number of incoming links and the number of outgoing links. People that reciprocate with links often remove the links in a short while. If your site has more outgoing links than it does incoming links your site will be downgraded in the SEO rankings. But if you write articles that include links back to your sites all links to your site will be for incoming links only, and this is good. Granted, a 1,000 links from just any site will never be as good as 1,000 links from quality sites - but its extremely time-consuming and costly to build a site to 1,000 incoming links from only quality websites with high Google Page Ranks.
Great article distribution sites you might consider for publishing your next self-written free reprint article include:
- EzineArticles.com
- ArticleCity.com
- GoArticles.com
- Article-Emporium.com
- Info-Articles.com
Write an article and submit it to these websites and come back to WorkatHomePro.com in a couple of months to write a comment about the success you are enjoying.
Wishing you the best,
Steve
